In order for you to be able to add your own background pictures/artwork, blinkies, email buttons etc, you have to upload them to a public server. You can do this at photobucket or flicker etc.
Once you have uploaded pictures there, you want to get the direct link code below that picture. You will be adding this to the various codes I am going to provide you with here. I will give recommended sizes for the pictures/images for each type of accessory you are going to add.

First off you have to create two pictures of the same image except you either change the color of the background or the type or what I sometimes do is just change the saturation of the background. For example mine is a piece of masking tape graphic. I called the dark one email me.jpg, the one that goes bright when you hover over it I called it email me hover.jpg. Best size for these is around 175 to 200 pixels. These here are 200 pixels.
